As a two spirited individual it seems sad to be invalid in another indigenous mind. The Colonial thought has shadowed our families' mindset of a two spirited person. This piece is a self-Portrait of celebration of self through preservation and resiliency. With my ancestors looking over me, I stand confidently and I feel my validity. This piece is for those who identify with the LGBTQ+ community and had hardships with family who weren’t accepting or had a hard time.
For the past few years, I’ve been on a journey of healing. Early this year, I went to a sweat lodge ceremony and I had a vision of this piece. I didn’t know what this piece was for, until the theme was revealed. This piece shows healing through ceremony with the help of friends and our ancestors.
